Oakland, California: The Oakland Women's Rowing Club gathers every Wednesday at 11 A.M. for an hourlong excursion on Lake Merritt near downtown Oakland. The club's 48 mothers and grandmothers, ranging in age from 53 to 96, still adhere to the dress code established by the founders in 1916.
